EPUAP is excited to present an important panel debate in the 2025 annual meeting programme:
Date and time: 24th September, 16:45 – 17:45
Title: Moral Distress and Missed Care
How can we prevent pressure ulcers with less resources – lack of human and material resources?
Moderator: Dimitri Beeckman
Confirmed panelists: Andrea Pokorná (Professor of Nursing Science at the Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic), Leena Berg (Plastic surgeon, University of Oulu, Finland), Britt Hansen (Registered Nurse at University Centre for Wound healing at the Odense University, Denmark), Steven Smet (Registered Nurse at the Wound Care Centre at the Ghent University Hospital, Belgium)
In today’s healthcare systems, professionals are increasingly confronted with the ethical and emotional burden of moral distress—especially when care is missed due to a lack of staff or essential materials. This panel debate will examine how these challenges impact the prevention of pressure ulcers, a critical yet resource-intensive aspect of patient safety. Drawing on diverse perspectives from policy, clinical practice, and frontline care, panellists will explore how healthcare systems can adapt, support staff well-being, and maintain quality standards in low-resource environments.
Audience engagement will be a key part of the session, using electronic polling to capture real-time views and experiences. Participants will also have the opportunity to submit questions to the panel, promoting a dynamic and inclusive discussion aimed at identifying practical strategies and advocating for systemic change.
